BONGAIGAON: To discuss various issues related to the present public transportation system of the district, including new rules set by the government, a meeting of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) was held recently in the DC's office conference hall under the chairmanship of Dr MS Lakshmi Priya, Deputy Commissioner of Bongaigaon.

Along with discussion on various aspects of the existing public transportation system of Bongaigaon district, some important matters were discussed and resolutions were adopted related to passenger fare, reservation of seats and so on. New rate of fares for passenger vehicles has been approved by the RTA board of Bongaigaon district as per the government notification no.TMV.195/2010/352 dated 20/11/2019, which had enhanced the passenger fare by 25 per cent against the existing rate. On the basis of the notification, the RTA board of Bongaigaon district also approved the present rate by enforcing fare enhancement accordingly.

The meeting also decided to reserve four seats, two each for senior citizens and specially-abled persons, in every passenger bus. Moreover, it was resolved that 50 per cent of the remaining seats, preferably in the left side of every bus, would be reserved for female passengers and the owner of the vehicle had to earmark the seats accordingly.

Bongaigaon district administration is looking forward to implement all these decisions at the earliest. The RTA meeting was attended by Anupam Deka, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Deepjyoti Neog, District Transport Officer-cum-Secretary RTA, Bongaigaon, and the office bearers of different passenger vehicle associations of the district.
