Sahitya Akademi Award to inspire me: Dr Phukan Chandra Basumatary

KOKRAJHAR: Dr. Phukan Chandra Boro, professor of Bodoland University (BU), has been named for the Sahitya Akademi Award, 2019 for his collection of poems Akhaini Athum.

Hailing from Bennabari village of Baksa district, Basumatary received the Sameswar Brahma Literary Award for the same book from the Bodo Sahitya Sabha in 2017.

When contacted over phone, Basumatary said he was happy to know that he had been selected for the award. He said this award would inspire him to come up with more literary creations. He also said that he had received another award for his book Nwibe Lamajwng Nwng Fwiywmwnbla in 2000.

Born on December 1, 1967, Basumatary has 22 books to his credit. He studied at Faguna LP School and completed Higher Secondary education from Bhajali Higher Secondary School. He did his graduation from Tihu College and postgraduation from Gauhati University.

The vice-president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS), Kamala Kanta Mashahary expressed happiness at Basumatary being selected for the Sahitya Akademi Award and said that it would inspire young poets and writers.
