BISWANATH CHARIALI: State Environment and Forest Minister Parimal Suklabaidya inaugurated a bio-diversity park at Behali in Biswanath district recently. Addressing the meeting, the minister said that the State Government was implementing the plantation scheme, one each in 24 selected districts, and sought help from the local people to make the scheme successful. He informed that fund had been sanctioned under CAMPA scheme based on the area coverage and protection activities.

The minister said that the State Government had a target to achieve plantation of about 10 crore saplings within five years and accordingly, it had completed plantation of around 7 crore saplings. The minister observed that the objective of the project was to create a green and pollution-free atmosphere in the region, so that the government earmarked funds amounting to Rs 400 crore to run the scheme for a period of five years.

He announced that the Forest Survey of India in 2017 reported 222 sq km forest cover in the State which had increased to 300 sq km during the last three years and the fund allocation in the Forest department had increased to Rs 100 crore this year. The programme was attended by State Textile and Handloom Minister Ranjit Dutta, PPC AK Singh, and other dignitaries.
