LAKHIMPUR: The prestigious Sahityajyoti and Kotha Baibhav awards of the year, instituted by Natun Sur Prakashan Parishad in 2006, were conferred on noted poet Pranab Kumar Barman and fiction writer Rasna Palok on Saturday for their remarkable contributions to the Assamese literature. This year 'Natun Sur Prakashan Parishad', a leading publication institution of Lakhimpur, honoured Pranab Kumar Barman with Sahityajyoti Award - 2022 while Rasna Palok was honoured with Kotha Baibhav Award - 2022. They received the honours in a programme organized at Uttar Lakhimpur Xahitya Xabha Bhawan, located in North Lakhimpur town, organized as the part of Mangalmoy Book Festival - 2022 (Mangalamoy Grantha Utsav - 2022).
The programme was chaired by noted social activist, poet Uday Sankar Hazarika under the management of Mangalamoy Patrika editor Sanjib Upadhyay. Director of Natun Sur Prakashan Parishad, Jiten Baruah delivered the welcome address of the programme wherein a galaxy of literary personalities were present. Litterateur Bharat Rajkhowa threw light on the literary works of Pranab Kumar Barman while poet Bhagyalakhi Deka highlighted the literary works of Rasna Palok. While conferring the awards, they were honoured with gamosa, cheleng, safura, memento, bundle of books and citation.
Pranab Kumar Barman expressed immense pleasure and happiness after receiving the award, with which Arunachal Pradesh based Assamese literary figure Lummer Dai was also honoured.
"In order to create something great in literature, the writers must go back to nature and simplicity from the artificiality and complexity. The concept of being popular shrinks the scope of literary practitioners. Great literary creation is possible only with the search for truth in life", Pranab Kumar Barman asserted in connection with his lecture. He added that everyone should express devotion to the Assamese language, literature and culture to protect them from threat to their existence.
