HAILAKANDI: 26 sanction letters were issued to beneficiaries under the Mukhyamantrir Grammya Paribahan Achoni here on Wednesday.

At a function held in Hailakandi town by District Transport Office, sanction letters were handed over to the selected beneficiaries by the dignitaries present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, MP, Kripanath Mallah said the scheme will help to improve rural connectivity and generate employment opportunities in the rural areas.

Deputy Commissioner, Megh Nidhi Dahal urged the beneficiaries for proper utilisation of the vehicles meant to generate means of livelihood and not for personal use but for benefit of the rural people by way of providing them transportation.

Superintendent of Police, Pabindra Kumar Nath said the laudable scheme is a means to improve the economic lot of the rural youth and for easing unemployment problem.

District Transport Officer, Syed Rafiqul Mannan explained the objective of the scheme launched by Transport department to provide a vehicle to a beneficiary per village. Under the scheme, the eligible entrepreneurs will be given a subsidy of 25 per cent of the cost of the vehicle by the Transport department or up to a maximum of Rs 1 lakh, whichever is less.

Although initially the scheme would be rolled out in 10,000 villages, all 26,000 villages would be covered under the scheme in phases.
