BONGAIGAON: 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav' is being celebrated throughout the State of Assam on the occasion of 75 years of Independence of India.

Organized by the Department of Public Health Engineering, Swachhata Rath Yatra marks the 75th year of the Independence of India. The celebration started from September 15 and will culminate on October 2, 2021, i.e., on Gandhi Jayanti.

The Swachhata Rath arrived at Bongaigaon from Goalpara on the evening of September 18, 2021. Dr M S Lakshmi Priya, Deputy Commissioner and Chairperson of District Water and Sanitation Mission, Bongaigaon flagged off the Swachhata Rath in front of DC Office. Pankaj Chamua, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Santanu Sutradhar, Executive Engineer, Public Health Engineering, Swachha Bharat Mission(Gramin) team and NGO members were present during the flag-off programme.

The Swachhata Rath was travelling across different localities in Bongaigaon district today to create awareness among the public on effective solid and liquid waste management among villagers. It is a part of the "Satyagraha se Swachhagrah Rath Yatra" spanning every district of Assam.

The Swachhata Rath was equipped with LCD monitors and 'PA' system to display short films on the issues of segregation and effective disposal of wastes. The rath travelled to Chalantapara Bazar and North Salmara yesterday. Leaflets on safe sanitation were distributed among the public present there. Today the Rath proceeded through Mulagaon, Dhantola Bazar and Boitamari to spread the messages of 'Swachhata' among the villagers; and then the Rath left for Dhubri.
