Schools in Assam Likely To Reopen in Phased Manner, Final Decision on September 1

GUWAHATI: As the entire state of Assam is waiting for the revised Standard Operating Protocol (SOP) reports state education department's dropping its plan to reopen schools on September 1 are been widely discussed.

As per reports, the state government will take the call of reopening the educational institutions only after the revised Standard Operating Protocol (SOP) for COVID-19 is released.

Meanwhile reports also suggest that the educational institutions in the state will restart in a phased manner starting from September 6, 2021.

Official sources within the state education department said "The government is in no mood to take risks with the health of school students as they are not yet vaccinated. The health department has not raised any concerns, but the state education department is not confident of starting offline classes," stated a senior official of the training division.

Further, a Standard Operating Procedure for the opening of educational institutes in the state is set to be released by the Assam Educational Department. In regard to the SOP, Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said that the department will abide by the guidelines set by the Assam Health Department.

In addition, the education minister also clarified that there is no problem with the availability of seats for the new admissions of HS 1st year. The admission process for the first-year students will run smoothly in all institutes, except for few institutes that offer admission to students right after appearing for the matriculation examination. The education minister also informed that the education department is planning to conduct classes in two shifts - one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
