TEZPUR: Minister for Information & Public Relations, Water Resources, etc., and Guardian Minister for Sonitpur district, Pijush Hazarika on Sunday ceremoniously launched the distribution of scooties among meritorious students under the Dr. Banikanta Kakati Merit Award of Pragyan Bharati scheme of the Government of Assam, at a programme held at Tezpur College auditorium in Tezpur today.

Altogether, 1057 students of the district have been selected for this award out of which 189 are boys and 868 are girl students.

The minister ceremoniously handed over scooties to ten girl students, two from each LAC of the district. The remaining students will be able to collect their scooties from their local dealers.

Addressing the students in Tezpur, minister Pijush Hazarika said they should strive to excel in life and bring laurels to their motherland and make good use of the benefits received from the Government. Thanking Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his farsightedness, Hazarika said the scheme would encourage girl students to pursue higher education and this endeavour will go a long way in empowering the women of the state.

Deputy Commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra delivered the welcome address at the meeting. Member of Parliament, Tezpur HPC, Pallab Lochan Das and MLA Tezpur Prithiraj Rava also spoke on the occasion.

Later, the minister also inaugurated the newly-constructed Dr B.R. Ambedkar Bhavan at Kalibari, Tezpur under the Directorate for Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes built at a cost of Rs. 1.66 crore under SOPD fund implemented by Assam State Development Corporation for Scheduled Castes Ltd.

He also inaugurated a newly-constructed office building of the Tezpur Water Resources Division, near District Transport Office, Sonitpur, built at a total cost of R. 1.55 crore. He was accompanied by MP Pallab Lochan Das, MLA Tezpur Prithiraj Rava, DC Deba Kumar Mishra and other senior officials.

HAFLONG: North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member Debolal Gorlosa distributed scooties to meritorious students at Haflong Dima Hasao district on Monday. The distribution ceremony was held at the Haflong Government College auditorium. 152 students qualified from the district for the award who cleared the Higher Secondary final examination this year. The qualifying marks for boys are 75% and above, while the qualifying marks for girls are 60% and above.

Addressing the students present during the occasion, CEM Debolal Gorlosa congratulated them and wished for a bright future. Speaking about the importance of healthy competition among the students, he encouraged them saying that success comes with hard work. He also spoke about prospective job opportunities under various offices within the district of Dima Hasao as a result of many new development projects which also includes educational institutions and other services. Lauding the generous step of the State government in order to encourage the student fraternity, Debolal Gorlosa said that every student must focus on this aspect and take this as a motivational factor to perform better.
