DIGBOI: Digboi BJP legislator Suren Phukan inaugurated the office of the Digboi Journalist's Union here near Swahid Bedi Tinali in Digboi township on Tuesday morning. The journalist-friendly Phukan who was the chief guest on the ceremonial occasion was accompanied by Purna Bora, the president of Digboi Rotary Club, Trilok Gupta, the Chief Advisor Bhojpuri Parishad Tinsukia District unit, Dipen Bora, the president of Digboi Sahitya Sabha Samity and Binod Chetry, the president Digboi Unit of Gorkha Students' Union.

State literary pensioner, senior social activist and chief advisor of the journalist union Punya Saikia lighted the ceremonial lamp beside participating in sapling plantation programme along with other dignitaries including the MLA.

"Beside striving for the overall development of Digboi and its people, I wish to escalate the status of Digboi as one of the best constituency in the state in terms of cleanliness, beautification and infrastructural growth," said Phukan.

Meanwhile, Rajesh Upadhay the general secretary of the newly constituted Journalist's Union expressing his gratefulness towards the AOD management for alloting the office and supporting the causes of the press fraternity in a multiple ways said that the union after its formation in February 2021 with around 13 reporters initially has been working in various socio-charitable fronts in Digboi beside reporting for the people and the place.

'With all the senior and learned personalities like Punya Saikia, Binanda Konwar, Pallav Sarmah, Laxman Sharma, Rina Kakoty, the union is expected to be one of the strongest body quite instrumental in serving various socio-economic, cultural, religious and educational cause of the society," said Upadhaya. With the setting up of a new office in the heart of the oil town, the mediapersons mostly comprising the experienced and senior reporters of Digboi would be motivated to render their services more efficiently, smoothly and quickly," said Pallav Sarmah, the advisor of the union.
