Sec 144 CrPC promulgated to prevent illicit distribution of cash, gifts and liquor in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: Considering the likelihood of any nefarious activities to be indulged in by some unscrupulous elements, such as illicit distribution of cash, gifts and liquor to unduly induce and influence the electors to gain political mileage during the period of 48 hours from the time of closure of polling, the District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur, Dr. Jeevan B promulgated 144 CrPC in the district.

In order to maintain law and order during the poll process and to create a conducive environment for the voters to ensure free and fair poll, the District Magistrate has made some prohibitions by exercising his power conferred upon to him under Section 144 CrPC by an order. Using of any vehicle as defined by 160 of RoP Act, 1951 and Election Commission of India for campaigning purpose without valid permission in the constituency, all kinds of political campaign except house-to-house visit during the 48 hours, staying in the constituency of the political functionaries, party workers, procession functionaries and campaign functionaries who are brought from outside are prohibited.
