KOKRAJHAR: The second phase of the 4th BTC election passed off peacefully on Thursday. The overall voter turnout in the second phase was around 80%. The president of Bodoland People's Front (BPF) and former chief of BTC, Hagrama Mohilary cast his vote at Debargaon Higher Secondary School while vice-president of the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) and candidate from Baokhungri constituency, Pratibha Brahma cast her vote at Vidyapith High School.

Talking to reporters, BPF president Hagrama Mohilary said that the BPF would form the next government with absolute majority. He said the BPF would get at least 30-32 seats in the BTC election in all four districts. He said the BJP and UPPL would not be able to form government. "The BPF is fulfilling its promises to the people and it will work for equal development of all communities," he said, adding that the BJP would be badly defeated.

Replying to questions, Mohilary said the BPF would decide about the alliance with BJP after the result of the BTC election. He also said that the BPF would not keep its alliance with the BJP till minister Himanta Biswa Sarma continued with the BJP.

On the other hand, vice-president of UPPL, Pratibha Brahma said that the people of the region desired a new change in the BTC and had come forward to extend support to UPPL. She said the people had come to vote against the BPF-led government that was involved in corruption and nepotism.

In Kokrajhar district, polling started at 7:30 am and continued till 4:30 pm in 506 polling stations. Men, women, both young and old, were seen coming out to exercise their democratic right since morning. A total of 10, 53,829 voters will decide the fate of 70 candidates in 12 constituencies under Kokrajhar district.
