Section 144 CrPC Promulgated by Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate Dr Jeevan B

LAKHIMPUR: Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate Dr Jeevan B, through an order, declared some prohibitions in the district exercising his power conferred upon him under section 144 CrPC in view of apprehensions that certain hard line extremist groups might plan to create disturbance during the forthcoming Independence Day celebration, posing threat to public peace and harmony in the district.

Carrying of weapons by any individual or organization without prior permission of the District Magistrate, assembly of five or more persons in public places except in market places and cinema halls, plying of two wheelers with pillion rider are prohibited through the order. However, the prohibition regarding the plying of two wheelers with pillion rider is not applicable for lady pillion rider with child in lap, school-going children, media persons and police personnel in uniform. If any unclaimed articles and bags are found lying abandoned in any public place, the matter should be reported to the police immediately. The order came into force in the district from August 8 and will remain in force until further order.
