TANGLA: A day-long state-level seminar on the topic 'National Education Policy and Higher Education in Assam: Its Challenges and Prospects' concluded at Tangla College recently. It was hosted jointly by the Tangla College Teachers Unit (TCTU) and Darrang-Udalguri Zone of Assam College Teachers Association (ACTA) in collaboration with IQAC cell of Tangla College. The event was attended by Professor, Department of Education, Gauhati University, Dr. Dulumoni Goswami and Secretary Finance of ACTA and Associate Professor of English, Barbhag College, Dr. Anupam Dutta as resource persons.

ACTA General Secretary Dr. Jayanta Brauah in his keynote speech, spoke on the topics of decolonization mentality, looking back into our past and learning through the enrichment of our own culture and heritage, responsiveness to the changing needs and asserted the positive role of government in the implementation of the Education Policy.

Professor of Department of Education, Gauhati University, Dr. Dulumoni Goswami, in his technical session spoke in length on NEP2020 and Higher Education in Assam. He laid emphasis on Gross Enrolment Ratio increasing the accessibility of higher education. He also opined that the vision of NEP2020 is to have an India Centric Education that contributes directly to transforming our nation's sustainability into an equitable and vibrant knowledgeable society, by providing high quality education. Associate Professor of English, Barbhag College, Dr. Anupam Dutta, in his own technical session, delivered speech on NEP2020 and government's initiatives for its implementation. He expressed his views that the role of government is very crucial in the implementation of the policy. He also echoed apprehension that proposed autonomy to all colleges within 15 years will certainly lead to privatization and eventually commercialization of higher education institutions in India.

Earlier Principal of Tangla College Dr. Prasen Daimari delivered the inaugural speech and welcomed the gathering. President of Tangla College Teachers' Unit (TCTU) Dr Kailash Goswami chaired the session which was anchored by Assistant Secretary of Darrang-Udalguri zone of ACTA, Dr. Satyendra Kumar Sarmah. The teachers from Udalguri College, Mazbat College, Khoirabari College, Mangaldai College, Kharupetia College, Orang KBR College, Mangaldoi Commerce College, Deomornoi College attended the programme.
