A senior resident of Guwahati, a well-known social worker and a professional engineer Alhaj MA Bari of Kalayanpur, Ganeshguri, passed away on Tuesday afternoon at his residence.

GUWAHATI: A senior resident of Guwahati, a well-known social worker and a professional engineer Alhaj MA Bari of Kalayanpur, Ganeshguri, passed away on Tuesday afternoon at his residence. Late Bari retired as an executive engineer from Assam State Warehousing Corporation. Since then, he has been actively involved in various social works and community services over the last two decades. Well-wishers and members of the area expressed their condolences on his demise. He was a philanthropist to the core and actively supported several social welfare initiatives. He was associated with the Haji Musafir Khana, Guwahati, Ajmal CSR, Markzul Ma'Arif, Hojai, Khankah of Maulana Ahmad Ali of Banskandi Hatigaon, Guwahati and the Minority Welfare Society of Guwahati. He has donated a multi storey hospital building at Bhanga under Ajmal's Charitable Hospital facility at Maula, Badarpur.

Originally from Rasulpur in Bhanga, Karimganj, Engineer Bari settled in Guwahati many decades ago and served across Assam in his service with Warehousing Corporation. He was a professional civil engineer and took an interest in economic building designs for the masses. He helped the construction of many social institutions' buildings across the State. A well-read person, full of benevolent ideas and zeal, he helped many organisations and institutions across the state to scale up and build their capacities. In a message, Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, MP, has expressed his condolences and said that late M A Bari would always be remembered as a well-wisher of the society and the state of Assam. Former Minister Abu Saleh Najmuddin paid tribute to the deceased and remembered his contribution to the socio-cultural activities in the State.

The dead body of Late Er. Bari was taken to his native place, Bhanga and the burial prayer was held on Wednesday. Rich tributes were paid to the departed soul by the local people and communities present at the burial.
