DIBRUGARH: Actor, playwright, theatre director and research scholar Dr. Nilim Chetia has been selected for the prestigious Senior Fellowship by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, for the year 2019-2020.

The Fellowship is awarded to outstanding persons in the field of Culture and this year 19 theatre practitioners of the country have been selected under which Dr Chetia will carry out a research titled 'Folkloric Theatre practice in Assam (1947-2020)' for two years. Nilim Chetia, a doctorate in Communication and Journalism from Gauhati University, previously has taken short-term course in the National School of Drama, New Delhi and Film & Television Institute of India, Pune.

Dr. Chetia is active in both theatre and cinema and has been engaged in various theatre activities, including initiatives of National School of Drama and Sangeet Natak Akademi in Assam as well as the whole country. He has appeared as actor in diploma films of Whistling Woods International, Mumbai and FTII, Pune with some other feature and short films. Dr. Chetia's most remarkable appearance is as young Dr. Bhupen Hazarika in the feature film Sonar Boron Pakhi.
