Separate regional parties will benefit the BJP & RSS in 2021 polls, says KMSS

Guwahati: Calling for unity among the regional powers in the state, Assam's influential peasant organization Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) today said that the formation of separate regional parties will ultimately benefit the rulling BJP party and its ideological mentor, the RSS.

During today's meet, the KMSS' President Bhasco de Saikia stated that it would wait till September 20 for an alliance and if, at that point, other organizations fail to show up, it will go ahead with its plans to form a separate party.

Time and again, KMSS Chief, Akhil Gogoi has called for unity among the regional powers in the state. Appealing indigenous bodies of the state to come together, Akhil has urged all the regional powers to come under one banner before the Assembly polls to be held in 2021.

It is pertinent to mention here that the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) and the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chhatra Parishad (AJYCP) Monday formally announced the name of its brand new party, the 'Assam Jatiya Parishad' (AJP). The party has been floated as a "political alternative' to the ruling BJP by the regional bodies in the run-up to the 2021 polls in Assam, and its members are likely to contest in 80 constituencies.

Regional organizations AASU and the AJYCP had originally declared plans for a 'political alternative' to the ruling saffron party while the protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act raged across Assam. The KMSS was also one of the key organizations that took part in the andolan which led to the arrests of many of its top leaders, including Gogoi.

Meanwhile, the KMSS has announced its intention to contest the Assam 2021 polls, with its leader Akhil Gogoi as the proposed party's Chief Ministerial candidate.

KMSS President Bhasco de Saikia recently announced that the work agenda of this new party will be known as 'Asombasir Jatiya Karmahuchi' and it will be for a "future modern Assamese society". "We will send the constitution and the agenda to all district committees and our sister organizations. Then we will make this public and seek the peoples' opinion on them," he said.
