DHUBRI: Seva Dal members of the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organizations (SSSSO) of Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh visited Satar village in Kamrup district and distributed umbrellas, educational and sporting materials among the villagers on Sunday.

SSSSO distributed two full-sized umbrellas to each family and one umbrella to each of the 35 students in the village. The students were also provided with packages containing two pencils, two pens, two erasers, one pencil box, one copy of Sanatan Sarathi, and one Sri Sathya Sai Baba pocket-calendar.

Apart from these, the villagers were also provided with 10 volleyballs and footballs each and three Ludo board game sets for recreational use. Their local library was also provided with 50 books on Sri Sathya Sai Baba literature. Satar is located 30 kilometres away from the Sai Sadhana Nilayam in Guwahati. It is completely inhabited by members of the Rabha tribal community.

Talking to The Sentinel, president of SSSSO, Satyen Sarma said that the village comprises 65 families, of which 35 individuals are school or college-going children.

"Unfortunately, although Satar is situated merely 7 kilometres away from the border of the Guwahati metropolitan area, it does not till date have electricity or mobile-network connection. It has only one primary school and, as such, most of the people there have studied till the primary-school level," Sarma said.

Upon arrival at Satar village, the members were greeted by village headman Padma Ram Rabha and president of local Nabajyoti Sangha, Ajoy Rabha. Along with president of SSSSO, Satyen Sarma, and president and trustee of Sri Sathya Sai Trust (north-eastern region), Dr. Gakul Das also visited Satar village and participated in the Seva programme.
