The family of the deceased sisters had then alleged that the girls were raped and murdered, as per the police.

The Assam Police has successfully uncovered the death of the two minor girls. The duo had been raped, murdered, and then hanged from a tree in a small forest patch in the Abhayakuti village in Assam's Kokrajhar district.

The perpetrators of the heinous crime have been identified as Muzammil Sheikh, Nazibul Sheikh, Farouk Rahman, Hanif Sheikh, Jahanur Islam, Md. Atab Ali and Sankarde Barman. The Assam Police successfully managed to arrest the rapists yesterday.

As per police reports, the two tribal girls were first raped, then choked to death after which their bodies were hung from a tree.

As per preliminary investigations, it appeared that the girl took their own lives but upon post mortem investigations the real details of the ghastly crime were revealed.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited with the families of the two deceased young sisters the following day the incident to try to console them and share their pain. He then asked the Assam police to do an extensive and in-depth investigation on this matter and dig out the cause of death. BTC Chief Pramod Boro and Kokrajhar East MLA Sri Lawrence Islary had also accompanied the Assam CM to visit the family members of the two deceased siblings.

"The Government will take stringent action, if there is any foul play. If the victims were forced to do self harm, Police shall find the reasons for the same," Himanta Biswa Sarma had stated on Facebook following the brutal rape and murder of the minor sisters. "Women safety shall always remain top priority of Assam Govt. Atrocity in any form against poor too shall not be tolerated," he added.
