Guwahati: Several areas in Lumding, Hojai, have been declared as Containment Zones on Thursday (July 6) due to a sharp spike in the number of coronavirus cases. The order shall be effective from 6 am of August 8 to 6 pm of August 12.

Garga Mohan Das, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Hojai has declared five areas in Lumding as Containment Zones due to the rampant spread of the coronavirus.

The marked areas are as under:

Main Market, Lumding

Harulongpher Bazar, Lumding

Crossing Gate Bazar, Lumding

Lumding Kalibari Areas

Lanka Road Tiniali Bazar

These areas have been marked as Containment Zones on the basis of the petition submitted by the President and Secretary, Assam Chamber of Commerce, Lumding Unit, and President and Secretary of the Lumding Merchant Association.

Das further stated that any "unauthorized entry and exit into the notified Containment Zone is barred as per the guidelines of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, GOI."

Additionally, all the "statutory and other directions regarding maintenance of social distancing will be strictly enforcement in the Containment Zone.

"Any violation of this order will attract action the provisions of "The Assam COVID-19 Regulations, 2020", "The Disaster Management Act, 2005", The Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 and other relevant laws of the nation", read the order.

Six more Covid-19 patients died in Assam on Thursday, which has pushed the total number of deaths up to 126. On the other hand, the cumulative count of confirmed cases crossed the 50,000-mark on Wednesday.

On the national front, after crossing 19 lakh just two days ago, the Covid-19 tally in India zoomed past the two million-mark to stand at 2,027,074 on Friday. Over 60,000 fresh cases were reported for the first time today. Despite the accelerating trend in the number of fresh detections, the fatality rate in the country remains low in comparison to the global average.
