DIGBOI: Three shops in Digboi Charali Market, including a leading restaurant-cum- confectionery, a plywood dealer-cum-hardware and a stationary shops were sealed for the next three days by Margherita Subdivisional Magistrate here on Monday morning for grossly infringing the COVID-19 safety protocols and guidelines of the government.

The business activities of the three establishments - Sharma Sweets, Vandana Stores and Vicky Stores - will remain suspended till July 8 after the magisterial order came into force on the ground of violating COVID-19 safety guidelines.

The surveillance team, during a sudden visit, found that the shopkeepers and customers did not have face masks and also did not maintain the minimum required physical distance from each others.

"The shopkeepers failed to ensure the COVID-19 safety measures in their shops and the rush in the restaurant was beyond imagination," said the town traffic personnel.

Meanwhile, Digboi Police, in association with the traffic personnel, have also been imposing fines on bikers for failing to abide by the COVID-19 protocol.

"No violators will be spared if they are found not following the safety protocols and COVID-19 guidelines of the government," said Partha Protim Das, the SDPO Margherita, adding further, "I urge the people of the subdivision to at least understand the pandemic scenario and help the security agencies and other relevant departments to enforce the guidelines effectively on ground."
