Lakhimpur: Yet another person accused in the Sub-Inspector (SIs) recruitment scam in the Assam Police was arrested from Lakhimpur district on Tuesday night. Notably, PK Dutta, the prime accused in the case, was also nabbed near the India-Nepal border on the same day.

The accused, who has been identified as Atul Nath, was nabbed by the Lakhimpur Sadar police on Tuesday night from the Panigaon area and handed over to CID, which has been conducting investigations into the case.

Immediately after his arrest, Nath was taken to Guwahati for interrogation.

In a related development, former deputy inspector general (DIG) of Assam police Prasanta Kumar Dutta, one of the prime accused in the Assam Police sub-inspector (SI) recruitment scam, was finally nabbed yesterday after a massive manhunt. Deka was arrested from Kakarbhitta in southern Nepal along the India-Nepal border by a team of Darjeeling police.

According to reports, Deka was travelling with his son-in-law when he was arrested. Dutta was on the run since the scam came to light after the SI exams had to be cancelled as the question paper was leaked.

The former DIG, PK Dutta has been kept in the CID office in Ulubari. He will be produced in Court today.

The other prime accused, former BJP leader Diban Deka is already in the police net. So far, at least 23 arrests have been made in connection with the alleged scam in SI recruitment process.

While investigating the scam, it was found out that the SI exam question papers were leaked via WhatsApp of Dutta's phone. Several raids were carried out in the city in connection with the SI Recruitment Exam Scam. The CID raided his residence in Hengrabari for hours.
