SILCHAR: Though the upgrade of the Silchar Municipality Board to a corporation was still in the initial stage, State's Urban Development Minister Ashok Singhal announced that the corporation election would be held within three months. New corporation would assume office before this year's Durga puja, he stated.

Speaking at Cachar BJP headquarter at Silchar on Friday night where the Guardian Minister as well as Finance Minister Ajanta Neog were felicitated, Singhal asked the party workers to get ready for the ensuing corporation poll. Taking cue from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's suggestion for better 'non political' candidate for civic body poll, Singhal said, persons having knowledge and experience in municipal administration should be given preference for candidature. He further added that the footings of BJP, the largest political party in the world, presently is very strong and its workers should rise above petty politics and concentrate only on people oriented development.

Neog, on the other hand, said that it was Barak Valley from where the Saffron party started to bloom throughout the State. Maintaining that Barak Valley is an integral part of Assam, the present government was sincerely working for the overall development of the region.
