SILCHAR: The Silchar Saurashtra East West Corridor has now got another date for completion as Union Road Transport and Highway Minister Nitin Gadkari informed that the much awaited highway was now scheduled to be completed by June 2027. Gadkari, in response to a written question of a TMC Rajya Sabha MP, stated, “The revised scheduled date for the completion of the corridor is June 2027.” Terming this national corridor as the ‘gateway of North Eastern States of India’, Gadkari said that this road also provides connectivity to international borders with Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal.
Gadkari said that out of 3576.55 km of the total length of the East West Corridor, 3480.62 km had already been completed. Gadkari maintained that the balance 95.93 km was now under either implementation or bidding stage and said that the completion of the balance length in West Bengal and Assam was delayed due to various reasons like land acquisition, obtaining forest and environmental clearances, and financial difficulties faced by the contractors.
