DIBRUGARH: In a thoughtful gesture blending entertainment with social awareness, the JCI Alumni Club and JCI Dibrugarh Greens jointly organized a special screening of the film ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ on Sunday morning at Galleria Cinema, Dibrugarh. The screening, titled ‘Ek Movie Sitaron Ke Sang,’ was part of a community outreach project aimed at providing a joyful and inspiring experience to underprivileged and differently-abled children.
The event saw the participation of over 40 differently-abled children, accompanied by Jyotsna Sonowal, Founder of Prerona Pratibandhi NGO, and was met with an overwhelmingly positive response. Additionally, 20 children from another NGO, Kalyan Ashram, also joined the session. Members of both JCI units, along with guests and volunteers, attended the first morning show, which turned out to be a deeply meaningful and emotional experience for many.
The film, starring Aamir Khan and Genelia D’Souza, narrates the story of Gulshan, a disgraced basketball coach who, following a court order, is tasked with training a group of neurodivergent individuals. The story unfolds into a journey of transformation, empathy, and acceptance, portraying how sports can empower and uplift differently-abled individuals. The film features ten newcomers playing the roles of the young athletes, and has earned praise for its sensitive storytelling and powerful message.
“This movie is a reminder of how inclusion and dignity can change lives. Our children were not just entertained-they felt seen, valued, and inspired,” said Jyotsna Sonowal, expressing appreciation for the organizers. “We’re grateful to JCI Alumni Club and JCI Dibrugarh Greens for creating this moment of joy for them.” “The movie is a learning experience for all of us. We are proud to have hosted this special screening for children who rarely get access to such enriching opportunities,” said a representative of JCI Alumni Club. “It’s not just about cinema; it’s about sharing a message of acceptance, respect, and empathy for all abilities,” added a member of JCI Dibrugarh Greens.
The joint initiative by the two JCI organizations was widely lauded for its social sensitivity and impactful outreach, turning an ordinary Sunday into an extraordinary celebration of courage, resilience, and compassion.
