Situation tense in Rakhyasmari under Dhekiajuli following the death of a youth

Dhekiajuli: A tense situation prevails in the entire Rkhyasmari town under Dhekiajuli Revenue Circle on Friday following the death of a youth after alleged atrocities on him by the Rakhyasmari Police. As per information available, one Sajal Das of Rakhyasmari town lodged an FIR against his own brother Babul Das (22) following a family dispute between them. Rakhyasmari Police, after receiving the FIR, took Babul Das in custody.

It was alleged that Babul Das was brutally tortured by the Rakhyasmari Police and thereafter he was admitted into Tezpur Medical College & Hospital for treatment. Babul Das died on Friday at Tezpur Medical College & Hospital. After the news of his death spread in Rakhyasmari town, hundreds of people came out from their homes and gheraod the Rakhyasmari Police Station on Friday demanding immediate action against the accused police officers involved in the case. Different organizations condemned the alleged brutal torture on Babul Das.
