SIVASAGAR: The Sivasagar district administration has launched a pilot project called 'Strengthening of Identified SAM children and Healthy upbringing, Shishu' in collaboration with the district's nutrition campaign. The pilot project has already been recognized as a major success.

According to Sivasagar district administration sources, under the project, a free certified supplementary food is being provided to the severely malnourished (SAM) and leaning towards severely malnourished (MAM-PTBS) children above 2 years of age in the district. The initiative has resulted in significant improvement in the health of all these children in just two months. As a result of the successful implementation of the project, at present, there are only 16 severely malnourished (SAM) children and 35 leaning towards severely malnourished (MAM-PTBS) children in the district. The number is also expected to go down gradually.

It may be mentioned here that Sivasagar (Urban) Integrated Child Development Project is now considered as a fully integrated Malnutrition Free Integrated Child Development Project. The district administration requested the general public, if they were aware of any child suffering from malnutrition, to inform to the district administration.
