GAURISAGAR: The Sivasagar district administration has pulled up its sleeves to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in the district. It has drawn up a slew of measures to contain the mass spread of the disease and has also taken up several steps to provide medical facilities to the affected and is taking other related proactive measures.

The Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar, Bishnu Kamal Borah informed that there are 482 beds available in various hospitals and COVID Care Centres. This includes 130 (including 6 ICU beds) at Sivasagar Civil Hospital, Jaysagar; 12 at Demow Model Hospital; 90 at Demow COVID Care Centre (ITI); 130 at Urban Model Hospital, Sivasagar; 50 at Sivasagar Girls' College; 20 at Swargadeo Siu-ka-pha Multi Speciality Hospital; 30 at ONGC, Sivasagar and 20 at Ligiripukhuri Civil Hospital.

The Deputy Commissioner also informed that isolation facility at the District Jail premises had been put in place for the COVID-19 affected prisoners. He also added that if symptomatic COVID-19 patients were detected in the jail, they would be treated at Sivasagar Civil Hospital.

Presently, there are 180 B-Type Oxygen cylinders and 40 Jumbo Oxygen cylinders available in the district. Moreover, construction of wards for 30 ICU beds is going on on a war-footing.

At present there are 977 active COVID patients in the district and 208 among them are being treated at various hospitals. COVID patients above 50 years of age are being treated either at hospitals or at COVID Care Centres of the district. Notably, the second wave of pandemic COVID-19 has taken the lives of 35 persons in the district. The ASHA workers, ANM, GNM and Anganwadi workers are regularly visiting the containment zones and are providing medicines and other amenities apart from creating awareness about the disease. On the other hand, a team of doctors is offering telephoning medical advice to the COVID-19 patients under home isolation.

Meanwhile, intensive COVID-19 testing is being conducted at various centres across the district. RTPCR tests are conducted for the symptomatic patients. Assistant Commissioner Pankaj Borah has been assigned to coordinate with the Joint Director of Health Services Dr. Syamanta Madhab Sarma and Superintendent of Sivasagar Civil Hospital, Dr. Saurabh Gogoi to monitor the management of beds at various hospitals and COVID Care Centres across the district for COVID-19 patients.
