SIVASAGAR: To discuss the Japanese Encephalitis (JE) Vaccination campaign for adults, a meeting of the District Task Force was held at the Syukafa Conference Hall of the DC's Office, Sivasagar.

Chairing the meeting, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Health), Sivasagar Bitupan Neog urged for raising awareness among the general public about the Japanese Encephalitis vaccination for people between the ages of 15 and 65. He advised to involve Asha workers, Anganwadi workers, Village Headmen and members of self-help groups to raise awareness among the public about JE vaccination. Neog hoped that the district would be able to achieve success with the joint efforts of Health department and other concerned departments, as it has achieved 97 percent success in the field of COVID-19 vaccination so far.

Dr. Syamanta Madhab Sharma, Joint Director of Health Services, Sivasagar explained the purpose of the meeting and highlighted the need to take vaccines against Japanese Encephalitis. He informed that 16 people have been contracted Japanese Encephalitis this year, and two have succumed to the disease.

Swagata Dutta, District Malaria Officer, said that the outbreak of Japanese Encephalitis was particularly prevalent in Geleky, Demow and Kheluwa areas of the district, adding that there was a need to raise public awareness in these areas.

Dr Pallavi Konwar, Suprvising Officer of World Health Organization (WHO) provided a comprehensive overview of the management of Japanese Encephalitis. She said that there should be an interval of 28 days after taking the vaccine for COVID-19 disease. She also stated that pregnant women, people with allergies or people with low immunity would not be given the JE vaccine.

Dr Arundhati Bora Hazarika, District Immunization Officer said that the immunization will be provided at the Primary Health Centres of Kalugaon, Gaurisagar, Morabazar, Kheluwa, Demow and Geleky. She said the vaccination campaign would continue for the rest of the week except Wednesdays and Sundays. She also informed that 1 lakh vaccines have been provided for Sivasagar and Charaideo districts so far.
