Sivasagar gears up for Republic Day celebration on January 26

SIVASAGAR: A meeting convened by Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Dr. MS Lakshmi Priya at the Sukapha conference hall in the office of the Deputy Commissioner was held recently to chalk out the program for the celebration of the forthcoming Republic Day on January 26 in Sivasagar.

The Deputy Commissioner, while greeting the officers from various government offices, eminent citizens, representatives of various parties, organizations and NGOs, called upon all concerned for cooperation in order to have the celebration of the Republic Day in the most befitting manner.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Bidit Das read out the program schedule of Republic Day which, he stated, would kick-off with prabhat pheri at 5 am on January 26. He further informed the gathering that as per the itinerary, other listed agenda for the day were playing of patriotic song, hoisting of national flag at various government offices, educational institutions, public organizations and institutions, distribution of fruits and warm clothes among the jail inmates, specially-abled children, people at old-age home, and pregnant women at Civil Hospital and competitions to be held among school students on art and essay.

Later, after the formal hoisting of the national flag by the chief guest at Boarding Field, the main event of the Republic Day celebration will begin from 9 am, as per schedule. The meeting also talked at large about the additional events to be organized for Republic Day, which include march past parade to be participated by contingents of Police, Home Guard, Scouts and Guide, NCC, and school children, felicitations, exhibitions, tableau of various government departments of the district to be showcased in the parade, painting and quiz competitions to be held among students, cultural program, friendly cricket match between Sivasagar district administration and Sibsagar Press Club, and prize distribution.

The national tri-color will be ceremonially brought down at 4:40 in the evening. The grand event will culminate in the evening with banti prajwallan at Swahid Piyoli Phukan Park, Anandaram Boruah Park and Lakshminath Bezbaruah Park.
