GUWAHATI: Six people have been arrested in Nagaon, Assam, for reportedly attacking a police team and causing damage to their vehicle.

According to reports, the event occurred on Monday when a police squad from the Anti-Narcotics Cell arrived in Rupohihat to dismantle a gambling and contraband ring.

The police arrived based on intelligence; however numerous people attacked the police team and their vehicle during the confrontation. Although no one was hurt, the police car was severely damaged.

Hira Gowala, Kuldeep Munda, Khairul Islam, Muzakir Alom, Hasmat Ali, and Mofidul Islam were among those arrested. They've all been taken into custody by the authorities.

On the other hand, recently a band of picnickers attacked two forest guards in Nagaon's Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary zone. Jahirul Islam and Pappu Patar, two injured forest guards, were recognized.

Several youngsters who had gone to the sanctuary's picnic area attacked the guard, according to sources. The incident occurred when two forest guards attempted to interfere in a brawl involving inebriated picnickers.

In another event, about 100 people allegedly attacked a police team in a village in lower Assam's Barpeta district when it went to pick up a guy in connection with a case of domestic abuse. To protect the accused, one Manihar Khan, the mob attacked the team with sticks and machetes, police said. Khan eventually escaped during the melee.

After police reinforcements arrived, more perpetrators fled the scene. The altercation injured a few police officers and local residents who were part of the crowd. To disperse the mob, police used blank fire and seized a few machetes and sticks from those arrested. Three people were arrested on charges of using force to prevent public officials from performing their responsibilities.
