Smuggling Alert: Trucks carrying subsidized urea seized in Dhekiajuli by farmers

Dhekiajuli: The Conscious farmers in Dhekiajuli, Sonitpur seized two loaded trucks carrying subsidized urea on Wednesday morning.

Acting on a tip-off, the conscious farmers informed the matter to Dhekiajuli police and apprehended both the drivers. Both the drivers couldn't produce any valid challans during interrogation.

It is to be noted that these Government-subsidized urea gets illegally smuggled out of the country while the farmers starve to death.

As per sources, both the trucks coming from Tezpur Chakbazaar were allegedly transporting the consignments of subsidized fertilizers at Dhekiajuli, however, there has been no official confirmation on the matter so far.

The trucks bearing registration number AS 12C 1817 and AS 12E 5509 is under police custody.

Speaking to the media, farmers alleged that several businessmen in the area are involved in selling these subsidized urea double the MRP rates.

Reports also claimed that a government-subsidized urea costs around Rs 265 per sack, whereas, the small traders sell them on higher rates which the farmers claimed to be around Rs 600 to 650 per sack.

Meanwhile, the conscious farmers had urged before the police department for a strict investigation in connection to the matter.
