Snail pace of construction work of wooden bridge over Kherkotia river irks Lakhimpur people

LAKHIMPUR: The snail pace regarding the construction of a wooden bridge over Kherkotia river has raised the eyebrow of local people. It is noteworthy that the bridge was constructed to connect the Dhakuakhona LAC under Lakhimpur district along with Majuli. A fund amounting to Rs. 132.75 lakh under SOPD(G), 2018-19, approved to Majuli LAC was granted for the construction of the bridge. While inaugurating the construction work in November last, State P&RD Minister Naba Kumar Doley declared that the bridge could be dedicated for the service of the people within four months. But its construction could not be completed even after a period of five month was over since November.

Significantly, the two LACs, Dhakuakhana and Majuli, which are to be connected by the wooden bridge are respectively represented by P&RD Minister Naba Kumar Doley and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Under such circumstances, the issue regarding the slow construction of the bridge has become a topic of discussion among the affected people. They have demanded the authority concerned to complete the construction of the bridge, immediately, before the rainy season set in.
