Bongaigaon: In tune with other parts of the globe, World Environment Day was celebrated in a befitting manner across Bongaigaon district by various organizations at multiple locations.

Nature’s Foster, an NGO, organized an awareness programme on snakebite at Puroni Bongaigaon Uccha Buniyadi Vidyalaya, which was attended by special dignitaries, along with teachers, guardians, students, and local residents.

Among the noted speakers, Dr M M Rahman from Bongaigaon Civil Hospital spoke about primary treatment and necessary precautionary measures to be taken immediately after a snakebite.

Arnab Bose from Nature’s Foster highlighted the theme of World Environment Day 2025—“Beat Plastic Pollution.” He also shared information about various venomous and non-venomous snakes found in and around the Bongaigaon area.

Kartik Urao, a well-known snake rescuer, stressed the importance of seeking proper medical treatment after a snakebite. “We should not put our lives at risk by visiting traditional healers after a snakebite. Several deaths have occurred in our area due to delays caused by such visits. Everyone should immediately seek medical attention,” he said.

In a separate programme, the Bongaigaon district administration conducted a street play to spread awareness about environmental issues.

The Senior Citizens’ Forum of Bongaigaon, in association with Apex Bank, organized a tree plantation drive at the Deuripara Shiv Mandir premises in Bongaigaon.
