DOOMDOOMA: Former lecturer in English, Doomdooma College and social activist Rajen Baruah (81) breathed his last at his Baghorbori (Panjabari), residence Guwahati on Saturday due to old age ailment. Born at Teok on February 18, 1941, he had his early education there and before joining as a lecturer of English in Doomdooma College in 1970, he worked as a teacher in Saumar Vidyapeeth, Digboi for some time and then, as a lecturer in Tengakhat College.

He also worked as a Principal of Lanka College on lien for a brief stint and finally got retirement from Doomdooma College in 2001. He is the founder Principal of the College of Teachers' Training (B. Ed), later converted into Doomdooma Junior College and was a member of the managing committees of Hoonlal HS and Doomdooma Girls' High school respectively. He was also President, Doomdooma Sakha Xahitya Xabha and Doomdooma Namghar Samity.

During the Assam Movement, he actively participated in the movement and later accepted membership of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP). He was a resident of Ganga Dhar Chaudhury (GDC) path, Doomdooma and shifted permanently to Guwahati a few years back. He is survived by his wife and two daughters. His death was widely mourned at Doomdooma and Teok, his birthplace by organizations like Doomdooma College, Doomdooma Junior College, Tinsukia Zila Xahitya Xabha, Doomdooma Sakha Xahitya Xabha, Doomdooma Namghar Samity, Doomdooma Press Club, Hoonlal HS School, Doomdooma Girls' High school among others.
