TANGLA: The public sector banks in Udalguri district are witnessing long queues since early morning with people jostling for space, defying social-distancing norms while police and the district administration remain mere spectators.

In the townships like Udalguri, Kalaigaon and Tangla, scores of people throng public sector banks for their banking needs, presenting a horrible picture by throwing social-distancing norms to the wind.

"Though the government has issued SOP and people are diligently following it, the crowd in public sector banks is cause of concern, specifically when the COVID-19 cases are dipping," said Safdar Khan, a businessman of Tangla town.

"The district administration must take cognizance of the matter as this type of behaviour will defeat the very purpose of curfew," said Ashim Roy of Tangla who runs a drinking water plant. Pertinently, the district currently has 612 COVID-19 positive cases.
