Social organizations help the poor to tide over crisis in Dhubri district

DHUBRI: Several socio-welfare organizations of Dhubri district in general and Dhubri town in particular have come out with essential food items to be distributed among the poorest of poor and those who are out of work and unable to earn their bread and butter during this lockdown.

Apart from Dhubri Municipal Board, town committees of the district and government assistance, socio-welfare organizations like Dhubri unit of Simanta Chetana Mancha, Dhubri Lions Club, Vivekalam, Dr. Pannalal Oswal Memorial Committee, Sabuj Sathi, Dhubri Police and many unknown groups extended their helping hand by distributing food items and other essential goods among nearly 10,000 people of Dhubri town itself.

Secretary of Dhubri Lions Club, Sanjay Kumar Sethia said that the need of the hour was to stand by those who earn their daily bread but due to lockdown have not been able to do so. “We are listing them and issuing token and placing our goods-carrying van near their area and distributing the packets of food among them,” Sethia said.

On Monday, a group of youths led by former ward commissioner Ramachandra Gowala and an ardent social worker, Umesh Prasad distributed food items among the daily wage earners living along the embankment of Dhubri Mela Field and Gowala Patty.

Secretary of Dr. Pannalal Oswal Memorial Committee, Bimal Oswal, who on behalf of the committee distributed food items, said that organizations of Dhubri had come out in large numbers and were reaching out to the people in need.

“We will overcome this grim situation due to coronavirus pandemic soon, but till then we should also stand behind the people who are in crisis,” he said.
