Social worker and ABSU leader Yamao Jwhwlao Brahma passes away

Kokrajhar: One of the most relentless, dedicated and selfless ABSU leaders who was also a close associate with Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma -Yamao Jwhwlao Brahma also known as Samarendra Brahma breathed his last at a private nursing home in Guwahati after a prolonged illness on Wednesday night. His body was brought to his Middle Tengapara residence on Thursday morning. He leaves behind his wife Margaret Hazoary, a son and a daughter. He was 59.

Brahma was born on April 1, 1960, at West Kalaigaon village under Serfanguri police station in Kokrajhar district. He was associated with ABSU since the start of the movement. He was the president of Ramfalbil Amchalik Committee, ABSU and organizing secretary of Kokrajhar district ABSU during the start of the Bodoland movement launched by ABSU. He did not take leadership in the central committee of the student body but he was a very dedicated leader who preferred to work silently. He was also associated with Bodoland Taekwondo Association.

Paying his tribute, the president of the ABSU, Promod Boro said Yamao Jwhwlao Brahma was the most dedicated worker and leader of the ABSU as he selflessly spent his entire life for the cause of the society. He said that Brahma was one of the Bodo leaders who designed the strategy of the Bodoland movement and also designed the modalities of the erstwhile Bodoland Autonomous Council (BAC) and BTC. He further said the Bodos had lost a great leader.

Former Rajya Sabha MP Urkhao Gwra Brahma said that Brahma worked dedicatedly for the society from behind the screen. He said Brahma shouldered responsibility as president of Ramfalbil Anchalik ABSU and organizing secretary of Kokrajhar district committee of the student body for some time. He was not interested in any portfolio but was a sincere, relentless and dedicated worker.

BTC EM of Sports and Youth Welfare, Doneswar Goyary said that Brahma was an efficient and dedicated leader. He said that Brahma was not only associated with the student organization but was also associated with sports and cultural activities. He was the president of the Kokrajhar Rifle Shooting Association. He was also an actor in the first Bodo small screen film Jarimin Khongkhor, produced by Daoharu Garla Batha Basumatary in 1985.
