GOLAGHAT: The noted artist and social worker of Golaghat Himen Das passed away on Saturday at Guwahati Medical College and hospital. He had met with an accident a few days back at the Kamarbandha area and was gone under treatment in GMCH.
He was born in Golaghat and used to live at Court Road of Golaghat town. He was started his educational life in Town Balika Primary School, Model School and HSLC passed from Golaghat Govt. Bezbaruah Higher Secondary School. He completed graduation from Debraj Roy College, Golaghat
He was famous as a decorator of the welcoming gates of programmes. He was associated with several social organizations of Golaghat. He was also known as an expert player of the 'dhol' and the tabla. Bihu dances were performed under his leadership in various places of Assam and New Delhi.
He earned his living by making beautiful gates and decorative materials for various programmes like the Rongali Bihu function, the main gate for Asom Xahitya Sabha Adhibeshan and other functions and welcoming programmes. He contributed to social activities. His death has been widely mourned by the people of Golaghat and all the organizations of which he was a part. He leaves behind his wife, two daughters and a host of relatives and well-wishers.
