Soil Erosion Continues in Dibrugarh

A Correspondent

Dibrugarh: Some illegal settlers on the wrong side of the Dibrugarh Town Protection Dyke had a close shave on the evening of Wednesday when a tract of land right in front of their settlements was eroded by the waters of the River Brahmaputra.

The sight was close to the District Dibrugarh and Sessions Court as well as Embankment and Drainage’s (E and D) Control Room. As a result, the workers of E and D were seen flinging into action, while the senior officers closely monitored the damage-control as well as preventive measures. Several settlers had to be evacuated as it was too dangerous for them to stay there, given their proximity to the mighty water body. It is noteworthy that this incident of soil erosion was not the only one, but was in continuation of a series of similar incidents that had been taking place over the past few days.
