KOKRAJHAR: Synchronizing with the celebration of Gandhi Jayanti on Tuesday, the Kokrajhar Municipal Board (KMB) launched the Solid and Liquid Resource Management (SLRM) service in the northern part of Kokrajhar town at a function held at Merchant Association.

BTC EM Rajib Brahma formally launched the SLRM service in the function. Talking to The Sentinel, the chairman of the KMB, Bishnu Narzary said the SLRM service had been started couple of years back in Kokrajhar town with the Clean Kokrajhar Mission under Swachh Bharat Mission and today, the service had been extended to the northern part of the town. He said the KMB was working hard to make Kokrajhar town clean and plastic-free.

Narzary said over 50 SLRM workers had been pressed into service. They will pick up waste materials in Kokrajhar town on daily basis and another 50 workers have been engaged for the northern part of Kokrajhar town. He appealed to all the citizens of Kokrajhar town to cooperate with the KMB to make the town clean. Korkajhar town was one of the dirtiest towns in Assam due to lack of waste management but after Bishnu Narzary assumed office as chairman, the town has become clean. Kokrajhar is the second town in India to introduce SLRM to maintain waste materials. The Governor of Assam, Prof. Jagadish Mukhi, during his visit to Kokrajhar on August 18, hailed the chairman of KMB for making Korkajhar a clean town in Assam.
