Sonit Konwar remembered on his 45th death anniversary at Jamugurihat

JAMUGURIHAT: Sonit Konwar Gajen Baruah was remembered on his 45th death anniversary at Jamugurihat on Friday. The Gajen Baruah death anniversary committee had organized a memorial meeting at the historic Barechariya Bhaona project site on Friday morning where all socio-cultural organizations of the greater Jamugurihat area paid rich tributes to the legendary artist.

All the invitees assembled in front of the full-fledged statue located inside the project site. Dharanidhar Das, former state secretary of Natun Sahitya Parishad lit up the earthen lamps, Golap Kalita, president of the host committee and Hemanta Bora, vice president of Barechariya Bhaon committee offered floral tribute. Minku Kalita, Lakhidhar Nath, Dilip Kumar Bhattacharya, Hirakjyoti Bora, Neelkamal Hazarika among others paid homage in front of the portrait.

Following the shradhanjali programme, a memorial meeting was held. Golap Kalita, Dharanidhar Das and Minku Kalita recalled the contributions made by Sonit Konwar in the arena of art-culture and literature. Ranjit Borthaku, working president of the death anniversary celebration committee conducted the proceedings of the meeting. Notably, the meeting was organized as per COVID protocols. Ranjan Kumar Das and Presab Kalita, secretaries of the host committee offered a vote of thanks. The meeting was also attended by Phanindra Barua, Hiranya Hazarika, Lakhyajyoti Hazarika, Tarun Barua and Shankar Pratim Barua among others.
