Guwahati: Sonitpur Deputy Commissioner Manvendra Pratap Singh, as well as his son, tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus on Tuesday (August 18).

This comes days after Dr. Aparna Manvendra Singh, the spouse of the Sonitpur Deputy Commissioner Manvendra Singh, tested positive for the Wuhan-originating virus.

The Deputy Commissioner, as well as his son and wife, are admitted to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital where they are all receiving treatment for the dreaded virus. Singh as well his family members who have tested positive for the virus are exhibiting some of the common symptoms associated with the respiratory disease.

Confirming this to The Sentinel Digital, Singh said, "I tested positive for the coronavirus on August 18; Currently, we are all running a slight fever and suffering from cough. All 3 of us have been shifted to the GMCH in Guwahati where we are under observation."

Meanwhile, the former Deputy of Commissioner of Sonitpur, Narsingh Pawar, now DC of Dhemaji district has also been infected with the novel coronavirus,

In another development, two Additional Deputy Commissioners of Kokrajhar have also tested positive for the virus, following which the DC's office has been marked as a 'Containment Zone' and sealed.

As per reports, ADCs Debeshwar Bora and Bhaskar Das tested positive for the novel coronavirus through the Rapid Antigen testing method. Taking cognizance of the matter, Kokrajahar deputy commissioner Bhaskar Phukan has declared that the office of the Deputy Commissioner shall be treated as a Containment Zone area till August 22.

It is to be noted that India on Thursday saw a record spike of 69,652 cases and 977 deaths in the last 24 hours. The Covid-19 tally in the country has now climbed to 28,36,926 including 6,86,395 active cases. The number of cured, discharged, or migrated stands at 20,96,665 while the deaths have risen to 53,866, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said.
