Sonitpur district administration gears up for I-Day celebration with 3 day programme

Tezpur: The Sonitpur district administration is pulling out all stops to hold the upcoming Independence Day celebrations with a three-day programme. Various events and programmes will be organized from August 13, August 14 and August 15 to observe the event in a befitting manner.

A cleanliness drive in all parks, public places such as market areas will be carried out on the morning of August 13, followed by a plantation drive where saplings will be distributed among school students. During the day, essay, quiz and painting competitions will be held among school and college students on themes pertaining to India’s freedom struggle.

A Run for Unity will be organized on the morning of August 14 involving students and prominent citizens of the district from Nehru Maidan at 6.30 am. A patriotic song competition will also be held on the day at Tezpur Girls’ HS and MP School from 9 am in two categories.

The district-level programme on the morning of August 15 will be held centrally at Nehru Maidan from 9 am. A friendly football match between DC XI and Media XI will also be held from 3 pm at Polo Field while a friendly cricket match between DC XI and Tezpur Cricket Association XI has also been organized from 1 pm. The district administration has taken all necessary steps to ensure a safe and successful conduct of the three-day celebrations.

Moreover, the district administration has appealed to owners of all private buildings, businesses and shops to ensure illumination of all such establishments from August 13 to August 15 in order to observe the occasion in a befitting manner and to pay tribute to all those freedom fighters and martyrs due to whose supreme sacrifice the country attained freedom on August 15, 1947.
