Sonitpur district shines at Assam International Agri Horti Show 2022
Jiten Kujur of Sonitpur district won the best farmer award at 7th Assam International Agri Horti Show 2022 at the Veterinary College playground, Khanapara, Guwahati from December 17 to 19.

TEZPUR: Jiten Kujur of Sonitpur district won the best farmer award at 7th Assam International Agri Horti Show 2022 at the Veterinary College playground, Khanapara, Guwahati from December 17 to 19. Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma presented a certificate and a cheque of Rs. 50,000 to the progressive farmer Jiten Kujur at the inauguration ceremony.
Jiten Kujur, son of late Atul Kujur of Dhulapadung village under Chariduar ADO Circle in Sonitpur district has been involved in farming for the last 10 years. He has been growing high yielding paddy, potato, capsicum, tomato, brinjal, pea, mustard and other vegetables on commercial basis in his 14 bighas of arable land with improved practices, including irrigation and integrated fertilizer application. He uses solar pump for irrigation and owns a vermicompost unit. In addition, Kujur has been farming fish on a commercial basis. Kujur, who earlier ran a tea shop in tea garden area, is now a full time farmer and earns about Rs. 50,000 per month, hence Rs. 6 lakh per annum from agriculture alone. He has also provided employment to many unemployed youths of his locality through agricultural activities.
