Sonitpur DM Imposes Prohibitory Orders in Arimora Chapori Due to Wild Elephant Presence

Sonitpur District Magistrate Ankur Bharali has ordered restrictions on public movement in Arimora Chapori, Bihaguri, due to the presence of around 100 wild elephants.

Tezpur: The District Magistrate of Sonitpur, Ankur Bharali, has issued an order prohibiting the unnecessary movement and activities of the public in the area of Arimora Chapori, Bihaguri under the Tezpur Revenue Circle following reports of the presence of approximately 100 wild elephants in the region. The prohibition order, issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, aims to ensure the safety of human lives and property while preventing any retaliatory action or law and order issues arising from the situation. As per the report from the Divisional Forest Officer, Sonitpur West Division, Tezpur, the elephants have been observed roaming in the area, creating a situation of panic among the local inhabitants. In light of this, the following measures have been imposed with immediate effect. Entry and movement of any person in the affected area of Arimora Chapori, Bihaguri is prohibited during the period from 4:00 PM to 8:00am.

Shouting, making loud noises, or engaging in any activities that disturb public peace or obstruct officials of the Environment & Forest Department and law enforcement agencies during the wild elephant drive operation are strictly prohibited. The order will remain in force until further notice. Police, security personnel, officials of the Environment & Forest Department, and other law enforcement agencies on duty are exempted from this prohibition. Individuals violating the order will be liable for punishment under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The district administration urged all residents to cooperate and adhere to the restrictions to avoid any untoward incidents.
