Tezpur: Chief Executive Officer, Sonitpur Zila Parishad, Diganta Baishya, who recovered from COVID-19 in July, donated his plasma at Tezpur Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday expressing solidarity with the government's appeal to COVID-19 recovered patients to come forward and donate their plasma for the treatment of critical COVID-19 patients.

Diganta Baishya had tested positive on July 10 in the line of duty. He was in charge of setting up and looking after the various quarantine centres across the district. He was released on July 18 after testing negative. After recovery and observing necessary quarantine till August 1, he has resumed duty with full vigour.

Diganta Baishya, an officer of the Assam Civil Service of 1995 batch, had joined Sonitpur as Chief Executive Officer of the Zila Parishad in September, 2019. He is the seventh person to have donated plasma at the TMCH plasma bank.

Plasma therapy has shown considerable promise in treatment of critically-ill COVID-19 patients and the Government of Assam has been making fervent appeals to COVID-19 recovered patients to come forward and donate their plasma for the treatment of other patients. Mass awareness drives are being carried out in the State to encourage more eligible persons to come out and donate their plasma.
