DIBRUGARH: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and AYUSH Shri Sarbananda Sonowal visited the 12th Dibrugarh Book Fair today. The fair is being organised by the Dibrugarh Milan Jyoti Sangha in association with the All Assam Book Publishers and Sellers Association and is held from November 26 to December 7.

The Union Minister visited the stalls and interacted with booklovers & visitors to the fair. Speaking to media persons on the occasion, the Union Minister said that books bind together communities, languages and open the vistas of knowledge for all.

"I hope this book fair will attract more people towards reading and make the young generation open their minds to the vast vistas of knowledge that literature opens up," stated the Union Minister.

The Union Minister attended the first biennial session of Sonowal Kachari Sahitya Sabha in Dibrugarh on Sunday and ceremonially released 50 books on the occasion. Addressing the people, the Union Minister said, "Since its inception, the Sonowal Kachari Sahitya Sabha has played a strong role in the development and spread of Assamese and indigenous literatures. Language and literature enriches communities and gives life to their culture.

To preserve the existence of our indigenous languages and literature, their daily use and dissemination is essential. I call upon the Sonowal Kachari Sahitya Sabha to unitedly work towards that aim."

Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly Biswajit Daimary, SKAC CEM Dipu Ranjan Makrary, ATDC Chairman Rituparna Barua, SKSS President Guneswar Sonowal, Sonowal Kachari Jatiya Parishad President Tonksswar Sonowal, Sadou Asom Sonowal Kachari Nari Santha Chairperson Rashmirekha Sonowal and various dignitaries were present on the occasion.
