JAMUGURIHAT: Brihattar Sootea Khilanjiya Mancha was constituted in a public meeting held at Natya Manidr Sootea on Wednesday with Trinayan Bora in the chair.

Addressing the public meeting, Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika said, "It is the need of the hour that the indigenous people should stand united. If we stand united then we can challenge anti-social elements which always try to obstruct the peace and harmony of the age-old Assamese society. Due to our lack of work culture, people sell their ancestral lands to doubtful voters merely to get money. Now they have become a great threat to our society."

Notably, the southern part of Sootea area has become a settlement for doubtful voters. The illegal settlers have constructed houses and dwellings, filling the pits and ponds which results in frequent floods in that area.

A new committee for the safety and security of the greater Sootea area was constituted with Ananda Handique as president, Baneswar Bora as working president, Pranab Ojha, Dharma Sarma, Jiban Sarma and Gopal Das as vice presidents, Jiban Bora and Tridip Bhuyan as secretaries along with 31 executive members. The public meeting took various resolutions, including freeing government land from the clutches of doubtful voters.
