Special member of medical advisory board Dr Pradip  Kumar Lahkar visits tea estates in Tezpur

Tezpur: Dr Pradip Kumar Lahkar, special member of the Medical Advisory Board of Plantation Workers, Government of Assam, and Medical Inspector of Plantations, Tezpur visited some of the tea gardens of Rangapara area like Phulbari tea estate and Harchura tea estate in Sonitpur district to assess the steps taken by the management against spread of COVID-19 in tea garden areas.

He met tea garden managers, leaders of workers’ union and student bodies and requested their cooperation in taking precautionary measures in tea garden areas against coronavirus. He visited labour lines in the tea estates and advised the garden authority to do sanitization as per government directive. He also met the people who are under quarantine after coming from other States to inquire about their health condition. Dr Lahkar requested them not to come out from the quarantine place and not to panic.

Dr Lahkar also visited spraying spots of tea estates to know about the health status of the sprayers. At the same time, he asked the managers to do proper medical check-up of the workers before engaging them for spraying chemicals in the garden. He also urged tea garden managers to keep strict vigil on quarantined people and requested garden workers’ unions and youths to extend their support. He asked the Excise department to keep strict vigil in tea gardens and neighbouring areas to stop sale of illicit liquor in tea estates.
