Special Plans' Underway to Protect Majuli: Former Assam Cm Sonowal

MAJULI: Former chief minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal visited erosion hit areas of his home constituency Majuli along with Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika, Power Minister Bimal Bora and Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah this morning and took stock of damage, loss and progress of protection works. The team inspected sites at Misamara, Salmara, Samoguri and Bhakat Chapori of the sacred river island district and officials were directed to mitigate damages at the earliest.

Interacting with media persons after inspecting the erosion hit areas, Sarbananda Sonowal said that Assam Govt has taken up special plans to curb large scale erosion in Majuli and protect the river island district. He also stated that Minister Pijush Hazarika has already given directions to his department to implement the planned measures at the earliest. He also added, "I thank the senior ministers and MP who came here on direction of the Hon'ble CM Dr.HimantaBiswaSarma. I firmly believe that in the coming days, with the blessings of the people of Majuli, all plans taken by Assam Govt will be implemented properly and Majuli will be protected."

The former chief minister is also scheduled to inspect a Solar Power Plant of Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) at BonoriyaChapori of Majuli.
